School

Ishan had to change schools again this year. But this turned out to be a blessing, as he had an excellent team working with him. He made huge gains and has surprised all of us. He did so well that mid year his teacher recommended he be moved to a higher functioning class. But I did not want him to face more changes so we postponed it until the next academic year. He has also had a tiring school year. his school is a bit far off and so he spends almost 9 hours at school.

Cognitive and communication Changes

We visited India this year and Ishan got to meet all his cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandparents. He was thoroughly spoilt and being one of the youngest he got all the attention. All this interaction did a lot of good as he gained a lot both in communication and coginition. His sign vocabulary increased to 20. We assessed him for an augumentative device, but are still in the process of getting things together.

One of the biggest achievements this year has been that Ishan has started walking in his Walker. It still is a huge challenege. He also has gotten a lot taller, which makes moving him around a bit more difficult. As I mentioned, Ishan had a good team, plus due to the fact that he was at school for such long hours, I canceled all his private therapies. But he continued to get OT, PT and SLP at school.
